How to Start, Set-Up and Maintain LGBT Company Networks
25th March 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
InterEngineering is pleased to present our latest event, including drinks and networking with other like-minded individuals with an interest in improving diversity and inclusion in organisations
Wondering about company networks? Are they worth it? How can you set one up? What can you do once you have one, and how do you maintain, grow and drive change when you do?
Businesses with networks for staff are more likely to retain and hire a diverse workforce than those without. The most successful company networks are started and run by the employees themselves; however it can be a daunting task to setup and maintain a company network- especially if it’s the first in your company.
- 18:00 Drinks reception
- 19:00 Talks from Mark MacKenzie (TfL), Thomas Anderson (OUT In The UK) and Matteo Lissana (Stonewall)
- 20:00 Questions and networking
InterEngineering has brought together some of the most prominent people in diversity networks to share their experiences and lessons learnt:
Mark MacKenzie (MBE)
Transport for London
Mark is a founding member of Transport for London’s LGBT Staff Network Group and for over ten years has been showing people that a transport company can be an inclusive employer. Under his steerage TfL has jumped from 59th to 8th, and then 5th in Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index.
Mark will be sharing this story initiating, developing and growing the TfL LGBT+ network, and the challenges faced by the company as his work enters its first decade.
OUT In The UK / Inclusive Networks
After successfully chairing the Co-op group ‘Respect’ to be the top private sector organisation in the UK (2014), Thomas has gone on to establish OUT In The UK and Inclusive Networks to help celebrate, promote and support diversity groups across the country.
Thomas will be sharing some tips on how to promote and grow your network, the potential and common pitfalls for people looking to establish networks and the attributes that make a successful network.
As one of the most prominent LGB charities in the UK, Stonewall has been evaluating and enabling companies to improve equality and diversity through their diversity champion program and workplace equality index.
“People perform better when they can be themselves” and Stonewall will be sharing how company networks help drive workplace equality, and the business case for them.
This event is proudly sponsored by BP.
