Balfour Beatty and Environment Agency Thames Barrier Event

We are delighted to announce the Environment Agency LGBT+ Network and Balfour Beatty LGBT+ Network are holding a joint event to mark Bi Visibility Day on Wednesday 27 September 2017 at the Thames Barrier Information Centre.

Why this event is important:

Both our Networks recognise that there is a lack of understanding and knowledge of bisexuality in our workplaces which has often resulted in bisexual people remaining largely invisible. We want to change that and celebrate our bi staff and raise awareness of the barriers that they face and how we can support them and allow them to grow and be themselves. We want our organisations to be inclusive of all staff regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

What is the Thames Barrier

The Thames Barrier is an iconic Environment Agency structure which Balfour Beatty (part of Team2100) have been involved in the maintenance and refurbishment so it seems like the perfect location to meet together for this event. We also welcome some of our partners in the engineering industry and those who work closely with our organisations to use this time to come together to network and share best practice.

Timings

• 9:00 – 9:30 – Arrival and registration
• 9:30 -12:30 – Main event featuring some exciting speakers including Emily Miles, Group Director of Strategy ay DEFRA, Christina Riley from Balfour Beatty, Marcus Morgan, Stonewall Bi Role Model and Teacher and Laura Lang, Bi Lead for the Environment Agency LGBT+ Network. We will follow the speaker session with some breakout sessions and a panel discussion.
• 12:30 – 13:30 – Light lunch
• 13:30 – We welcome you to learn more about the wonderful Thames Barrier with a virtual tour and talk from the Thames Barrier staff
• 15:30 – Close and networking drinks nearby
