Our community has been hit hard once again during another crisis, but this time on a global scale! We want to learn and share with you how we can better manage these hard times in the future.

We will hear from Dr Billy Haworth from the University of Manchester and the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute who will present his research on the “experiences of gender and sexual minorities during the COVID-19 pandemic and discuss what we can do to improve inclusion for the minorities.

Following Dr Haworth’s presentation we will hear from Dr Jack López from the University of Bradford who conducted a research from June 2020 to January 2021 on Interruptions and access to gender transition related healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings from their interviews with trans and non-binary adults include: the loss of vital support networks during lockdown, initial barriers to accessing hormone medication and had long awaited surgeries cancelled indefinitely. Despite this, online peer support networks focused on healthcare have increased during the pandemic. Barriers to transition related healthcare and Covid-19 pose specific questions for how employers can best support trans and non-binary employees.

In this event, we want to educate and empower our community and those who support it on how diversity can be better managed in these times of hardship and crisis. Share your best practices with us and others so we can all live a better and fairer life!
